To discover Aenaria, the Roman city under the sea

In the bay of Cartaromana, in front of the Aragonese Castle, the submerged prairie of Posidonia guarded the Roman city of Aenaria for nineteen centuries, swallowed up by the sea due to a volcanic event in the first century AD.

The ongoing archaeological exploration of the shallow seabed, rich in biodiversity, has brought to light the remains of a maritime villa with a nymphaeum, sections of walls and the ancient port. And the wooden structure of a quay, still under construction when the city was suddenly abandoned. An underwater itinerary full of surprises, to be fully enjoyed with a glass-screen equipped boat, snorkeling or a guided dive.
